Good morning, family and friends! 𼜠Itâs another tax prep dayâŚwhich means I have to shower and get cleaned up. No big deal, right? Just a simple, everyday task. Nothing to see here. Except, of course, that itâs been three days since my last one.
Now, letâs talk about showers. Once upon a day, I was a daily shower devotee. I wouldnât dream of starting my morning without standing under a high-pressure stream of hot water until my skin would would wrinkle or the hot water tank went emptyâŚwhichever came first.
I loved my showers so much, that we had a speaker installed in the shower to keep me entertained, because why limit luxury? And yes, I know there are people out there who are aghast over my excessive water usage, but to them, I say: sorryâŚcanât help myself.
Fast forward to now, and showering is no longer the effortless escape it used to be. With ALS in the picture, something as simple as washing up becomes a full-blown production. Thereâs the chairâmy trusty, if very annoying, shower companion. What was once a mindless, automatic process now requires planning, balance, and a good dose of patience. Just getting in and settled is a workout in itself. I donât have to bring the cane in with meâŚnot yet. Lifting my arms to wash my hair and get things rinsed off. Itâs like going to the gym for weight training. And donât even get me started on the energy it takes to dry off, get dressed afterward and blow dry my hair, put product in, and set it with a spray. Nobody said this new hairstyle was going to be easy. By the time Iâm done, I feel like I could take a really good napâŚseriously folksâŚI am exhausted.
Speaking of bathrooms, the remodel has hit a delay. The tiler was MIA for most of last week, which means the hardwood floors couldnât go in over the weekend. Not exactly shocking, but it does mean the chaos continues. We were hoping to wrap things up in February, but now itâs looking like the first weekend of March. And of course, once the work is done, weâll have a bonus round: a full week of dust removal. Cindy has already started pre-cleaning in the hopes of getting ahead of this chore. UnfortunatelyâŚthe tiler will be here at 8:00 and by 8:10 the lovely sound of the saw will be all that we hear and new dust will recover all the furniture and more.
Onward we go! Itâs going to be a great day no matter what. Iâm thankful for that which I can still doâŚindependently.
Have a great Tuesday! Dress warmâŚitâs dangerously cold out there.
Love you guys!â¤ď¸
