Good morning, everyone! This morning, I slept in for a change…it was lovely.
Spring has to be just around the corner. I’m working with the landscaper on our lawn care contract, so there’s light at the end of the winter tunnel. That reminds me…I need to get those electric bikes ordered. I want to use them as soon as temps get above 50°!
Yesterday unfolded pretty much as expected. By the time I showered, squeegeed the glass, did my hair, and got dressed, I was utterly exhausted. Honestly, it felt like I had just finished a triathlon—except instead of a medal, I was rewarded with Gumby legs for the rest of the day. Some of you know exactly what I’m talking about.
Cindy drove me to our tax prep site, which gave me a chance to sit back and relax. I’m slowly relinquishing my driving privileges. Before I know it, I’ll be handing over my keys entirely. Anyone who knows me will see that day coming like a freight train. It’s probably the moment I finally get properly pissed off about this whole shitty ALS thing.
Tax day itself went pretty well. No clients shouting, “WHAT did you say? I couldn’t understand you!” so I’m calling that a win. I chalked it up to their hearing loss rather than my slurred drunken speech.
There is one consistency in all these tax returns and its social security. 80% of our clients are on it and I can’t seem to get my tongue to say those two words back to back. It’s challenging like “Sally’ sells seashells by the seashore”. So I’m learning to pause and slow down before I say soc•ial sec•cur•i•ty. I still get hung up occasionally, but nobody has asked for a replacement tax preparer…yet!
I did get a remark about my hair being messy. I mentioned that it was intentional and said thank you for noticing. My hairdresser would have been so pleased with me. Energy well spent in the morning. Nailed it.
By 2:00 we were fairly quiet and had more volunteers than clients. I was ready to get home and take a nap. Before heading out, I asked if someone could store my Chromebook computer for me. That thing is heavier than it looks and throws off my balance—one more thing that could take me down. Look at me, being proactive and removing a fall risk.
Cindy arrived soon after in a nice, warm car, and we headed home. Nap achieved. I was thinking before I dozed off…I hope this nap doesn’t mess up my hairdo.
The rest of the day was quiet, with minimal walking, and I feel much better this morning. Ready for whatever life has in store today!
Love you guys!❤️
