Wednesday, August 27, 2025 – Day 379

Good morning, and thanks for joining me on the road today. We had a busy one—well, busy for me anyway.

The outdoor pool closes at the end of the month, and just like last year, Cindy’s determined to squeeze in a few last visits before summer comes to a screeching halt. It almost doesn’t make sense—she’s not a sun goddess, rarely dips in the water (neither do I), and prefers peace and quiet. But she loves to lounge on the pool deck with a book. I’m glad she pushes for it, because I enjoy doing the same thing.

Yesterday we went, and her sister Barb came along—also a reader. Mark stayed home. He’s not a reader, and with no eye candy around the pool, I can’t fault him for staying back.

It was a typical end of August Midwest day—sun battling clouds in a hot-cold, hot-cold cycle. When the sun broke through, it felt perfect. When the clouds returned, you needed another layer. A Jekyll and Hyde kinda day. And just as we settled in, the hip-hop music kicked on. Cindy and Barb looked at me as if I were somehow in charge of the playlist. For the record—I wasn’t.

Still, it was good to be out. Getting out of the house is becoming harder, and as the weather cools, I know I’ll be more inclined to stay in. With the walker now my steady companion, and the wheelchair on deck, every outing takes more planning. But it’s worth it.

After the pool, Mike H rolled up in his fire engine red ’68 convertible for a trip to Sew Hop’d. Mark hopped in the back seat crossways, feet on the opposite side. I would’ve taken the back, but climbing out would’ve been a circus act—Mike hasn’t installed a Hoyer lift yet. 🏗️

The drive was perfect—top down, 70s, no humidity, sunshine all the way. Just like San Diego. (Although what do I know? I’ve never been there.) We parked at the brewery, settled outside, and enjoyed good beer, cigars, and snacks.

I ordered my usual two beers, but only managed a few ounces of the second. Drinking takes more effort these days, which slows me down—a blessing, really, since Cindy had an appointment and I was going to be home alone afterwards. The last thing either of us wanted was me tipsy and tumbling.

Mark and Mike got me safely up the ramp and into the house. They even inspected the ramp and firmed it up a little more. I thanked them for the lift, the company, and the beers—they wouldn’t take any money. Good people, those two.

From there, I stayed put on the couch until Cindy got home around 7:30. No reason to test fate. If I’d fallen, I’d have had a hell of a time getting back up—and Cindy didn’t need that shock when she walked in the door. I’m sure she appreciated my restraint.

It was a good day and I’m thankful I have friends and family that will make the effort get me out of the house and assist me. I know it’s not an easy thing to do…I’m grateful and fortunate to have such great people in my circle. Thank you!!

Have a great Wednesday. Back to the pool? Maybe.

Love you guys! ❤️

Yes…there is an extra photo. Cindy took one of me sitting in front of the fire this morning. It’s perfect for these cool mornings.
