Tuesday, September 16, 2025 – Day 399
Tuesday, September 16, 2025
Good morning, blog fans.
I have to believe many of you who traveled to the wedding this past weekend are still in recovery—unless you’re under 30. Am I right? My tiredness can’t be chalked up to ALS alone.
Neon Prey showed up while we were gone, and I started it yesterday—squeezed in between about ten catnaps. Honestly, I couldn’t do much else. Today the palliative nurse comes at 1:00 p.m., and outside of that, it’ll be another quiet day of reading and staying off my legs.
Saturday, September 13, brought more than just a wedding—it brought two new babies. Peter, one of the groomsmen, stayed home to welcome a son. To which Alex responded, “What a day!” At the same time, Matt and Felicia (Tim and Shawn’s daughter) also had a baby boy. Everyone’s doing well—congratulations all around! 🎉
Back to wedding details.
Wyatt and Coco were the ring bearer and flower girl. Always a wild card: will they dress up, walk down the aisle, pitch a fit? Anything could happen. But these two crushed it—no rings lost, flower petals scattered perfectly, and Coco capped it off with an exclamation point. In Alex’s words: “Her slam dunk right before Nicole got to the altar was my favorite moment of the ceremony.”
The ceremony itself was outstanding. Kyle, Alex’s old swimming friend, officiated and did a terrific job. I’d like to call it the best I’ve seen—but Susie still holds that title for Geoff and Kristen’s wedding last summer. She managed to be both funny and heartfelt, even joking that if Geoff ever became available, she could step in. Perfect timing, and it had everyone laughing—right before the vows.
One especially poignant part of Alex and Nicole’s ceremony…a few people were asked to share words of wisdom, read by a bridesmaid. I was honored to be chosen, and my words were read beautifully by Sofija, Kim and Aras’s oldest daughter. Here’s what I wrote:
Words of Wisdom – September 13, 2025 Alex and Nicole—
“As you roll down the road of life together, there will be times when one of you turns left while the other turns right. That’s normal. Life pulls us in different directions—through work, kids, friends, family, projects, and yes…even Taylor Swift.
The important thing isn’t walking the same road every day. It’s making a habit of finding your way back to each other. Reconnect. Check in. Put aside the noise of life and remember why you chose each other.
Marriage isn’t about avoiding the detours; it’s about always finding your way home together.”
Sofija delivered it with such heart, finishing with tears on the last line. Well done, Sof—you had me tearing up too. (That happened a lot during the weekend, but they were all happy tears. 🥲)
After the vows and rings, Kyle pronounced them husband and wife. The big kiss, the applause, and then off they went to the reception—photos already done earlier.
Meanwhile, Aras and Zack helped me back to the lodge, practically lifting me at one point as I tried to push my walker up the hill. If I’d looked back, I’m sure there was a line forming behind us and everyone wanting to hit the bar! There was no passing lane so they had no choice but to fall in line. Aras and Zack got me settled and comfortable for cocktail hour and ready for a night of celebration.
I’ll fill you in on the reception tomorrow.
Have a great Tuesday. Love you guys! ❤️
