Good morning, new blog readers and those of you who’ve been following, welcome to Andy’s Army.
I don’t know everyone reading this, but I’m humbled that you’re taking the time to follow my ALS journey, my daily life, and to meet my family and friends through these posts.
Andy’s Army was started by Nikki and Alex (my kids) and Meghan (my niece), with the goal of raising money for ALS United by running the Chicago Marathon on October 12—just 20 days away. Along the way, they picked up a fourth runner, Michael Nyman, Nikki’s friend and coach (her secret weapon to beat Alex).
Together, this group of amazing people has raised over $42,000 to fight ALS and support patients like me. I can tell you with certainty that without ALS United, living with this shitty disease would be far more challenging and frightening. They’ve been with us from the start, providing the tools we need to live and even thrive. I also have a final list of individuals who requested Andy’s Army T-shirts. Please double-check the names to make sure we didn’t miss or drop anyone. This will be the last time I publish the list. The plan is to place the order in the next couple of days so shirts arrive before race day. We’ll figure how to get them to you once we have them. Clocks ticking.

Today’s photo is of a clematis planted at the corner of our garage. It is as fragrant as it is big. I wish I could capture how wonderful it smells. When you’re within 10 feet of it…it’s heavenly!
