Thursday, October 2, 2025 – Day 415

Good morning, Andy’s Army!

The Andy’s Army t-shirts are slowly making their way out the door. Yesterday we dropped off and mailed a big batch, so if you live more than 30 miles away, yours is on the way. Most of you should have shirts in hand by this weekend—except for the new orders from Tuesday. We still have about seven extras in various sizes, and no, attending the marathon is not required to wear one.

Last night I received a photo from a group of my high school buddies, all smiling and wearing their shirts. The sight hit me hard—eyes welling up with tears, heart swelling with gratitude. To see friends together, proudly supporting me… wow. I hear the question often: “What can we do for you?” Truth is, I don’t always have a quick answer. But keep doing what you’re doing—because it’s working. I’m beyond lucky to have such great friendships.

Cindy and I went out to dinner with Gary and Kathy last night. They’re part of our NIU college crew, and since we live in the same town, we try to meet up when we can. With all that’s going on in their lives and mine, it’s never easy.

We chose The Breakers—a tiki bar in Crystal Lake—and turned it into a three-hour dinner, punctuated by hellos from the Wednesday night regulars. Years ago we were part of that weekly group, our version of Cheers. I miss the camaraderie, but when we do go back, it feels just the same. Honestly, if it weren’t for my bony butt growing uncomfortable in the wheelchair, we might still be there. Even with cushions, I can only sit so long before the aches set in. And of course there’s the restroom challenge. Still doable, but not easy. The bright side? No neck aches in the chair—a small but meaningful win.

Wheelchair dining and drinking is my new reality. Maybe one day I’ll figure out a catheter setup to solve the bathroom problem—it would certainly help during day drinking. For now, research is required. Meanwhile, there’s always the adult diaper option… not my first choice.

We’ve also got some invitations on the horizon that will pull us away from home. Part of me is reluctant to leave the comfort of my setup, but another part longs to see people and enjoy life. Everyone has been so accommodating—thank you for that. My job is to make sure I’m ready to face the hardships that come with traveling.

On the book front, I just finished Toxic Prey (#34 in the John Sandford series). The only one left is Lethal Prey. Still no closer to figuring out who’s sending these books. Maybe the next delivery will give me a clue.

Wishing you all a great Thursday. Love you guys! ❤️

Photo left to right. Chrissy, Cathy, Ric, Bill, Monica. Thanks for the photo…love it.

Missed taking a photo at Breakers. Apparently we aren’t to be trusted with this responsibility. Where are Barb and Mark when I need them…they never forget.
