Saturday, October 25, 2025 – Day 438

Good morning! We’re off to Michigan this morning.

This two- to three-hour drive will be a good test for my butt and the various cushions we’ve accumulated. I’ve got very little padding left back there, and I’m starting to resemble the Sexton (maternal) side of the family. My aunts and uncles never had much meat on their bones either, so I imagine their backsides were just as sore on long car rides…especially in their later years. Certainly the case for Miss Sally (my mom). If we need to stop halfway, so be it. My lifelong “get-there-at-all-costs” mentality has officially been replaced by “comfort first.” Yes, I know—it’s shocking to read this. Change is good, I hear.

I just finished Ordinary Grace by William Kent Krueger—another good read. I wrapped up Look Closer earlier in the week, and both were very different from the thrillers I usually go for. Ordinary Grace starts out slow, but before long you’re drawn into a story about unexpected loss and the pain that follows. Through it all, you see how faith, hope, and love work together to help people keep moving forward while trying to understand the “why.” Why did God allow this to happen?

Reading Ordinary Grace made me think about my own ALS journey—and how the love of family and friends continues to lift me up during dark times. I can’t say that faith and hope have been my go-to companions as we navigate this shitty disease. They’ve been sitting quietly on the sideline, and that’s okay. I’m not going to force it. If they find their way into my journey, it’ll be because it feels right—not because I willed it.

A worthy book to read, and I’ve got a copy if anybody’s interested. I’m grateful it was sent my way. Thank you, Di!

Everyone have a great Saturday. Love you guys! ❤️
