Happy Wednesday, everyone. And happy birthday to Nikki’s husband, Zack!
Where do I start?
When people ask how I’m doing I tell them I’m OK. I’m not really OK but the long answer would involve an exhausting amount of emotion and tears. So rather than go there I thought I’d tell you what we’ve been up to the past few days and our plans going forward. I’m not the writer that Andy was so bear with me.
LOVE The amount of love and support we’ve felt the past few days …. I can hardly believe it. It’s like some kind of bat signal went out and family and friends showed up on cue with food and beverages and supplies and hugs and love. They went home for a little while and returned the next day with more. We’ve received many text messages of sympathy and support and love (I’m still catching up on those!) and cards and books and flowers and more love. Love is the theme. We feel it. We know you are sharing our grief and sending love to get us through.
STAY WITH US We are going to continue to share news through Andy’s blog. We have a few guest bloggers lined up already. We will finally learn the identity of the mystery book sender!
If you have subscribed to the blog by clicking on the little hamburger (as Andy called it) in the upper right corner of the page you’ll know when a post has been made.
ARRANGEMENTS Andy was clear with me - he did not want a visitation or service at a funeral home. He wanted a party. A celebration of his life will be planned for a future date.
THE JOURNEY I don’t know how Andy found the strength and courage to share the details of our ALS journey. For 553 days he faced this “shitty diagnosis” head-on. I couldn’t have revealed the private and ugly details of this horrible disease the way he did. For Andy and all the other people who suffer from ALS, we must keep pushing to find a cure. Team Andy’s Army will be running the Chicago Marathon again this year, and the team roster has more than tripled. The team is currently training and raising money with the dream of ensuring no other family has to face an ALS diagnosis without hope. When asked, if you are able, please give what you can.
Words can’t express how grateful we are for your support and love.
Love you guys.
Included is one of my favorite pics of Andy with his dad. The other pic was taken last weekend at Andy’s favorite pizza place. Nikki spent the weekend with me, and I loved having time with her all to myself.
