NYC Adventure
My husband Paul and I spent two weekends in NYC with Cindy and Andy, enjoying every minute. On this particular trip, Central Park was a must. A perfect summer day, good friends, the endless people watching offered in the park, all added up to the ideal NYC experience. Before long we found ourselves down by the boathouse, watching the row boats drifting across the lagoon. Briefly considering renting one for ourselves, our attention was drawn to the three young women of various size and shape, clumsily trying to maneuver a row boat for what was certainly the first time. Amid squeals of laughter and a little fear of ending up in the water, each cautiously attempted to board. Wildly waving arms tried to recover some balance, the boat pitching right and left, a plunge into the lagoon was imminent. One of us asked, “Well, ready to move on?” to which Andy, recognizing the comedic potential unfolding in front of us said, “I’m not going anywhere.” At that, we were riveted, listening and laughing while Andy provided a play-by-play of a classic 3 Stooges-like sketch. The three finally managed to get into the craft, each taking a seat. Whew! I think we breathed a collective sigh of relief in between the laughter and tears still erupting. Now the fun really began. Having no clue how to row a boat, and literally going around in circles, THEY DECIDED TO SWITCH SEATS. A crowd had gathered at this point, awaiting the inevitable. Did we cheer when they managed to accomplish the task? I don’t recall. What I do recall is that the chemistry of friendship, a summer day, and laughter created a memorable “You had to be there” moment and we are so grateful Andy was.
